On Saturday, June 26th, at North Bellingham Golf Course, the annual Meridian Public School Foundation Golf Tourney took place. Twenty foursomes enjoyed a fun day of golf and friendship. The team of Steve Haugen won the day’s event with a “card off†vs. the Burgess group. The winning score was 13 under par.
Most individuals won either a gift or door prize thanks to the generous donations from individuals and businesses. New this year was the addition of an auction with two special donations. Jerry and Carol Sanderson put up a “stay†at their log home in Eastern Washington and Dr. Larry Petry, a known artist from King County, donated an original painting. Winning bids were from Aaron and Shannon Cleays for the log home stay and Camden Morris took home the prized piece of art.
This year over $10,000 was raised with a net of $6500 for the Scholarship Fund. This is our primary fund-raiser other than donations from alumni and community members. The tourney continues to grow each year with a larger participation among the field of golfers as well as the prizes. This year the classes of 1960 and 1963 sponsored the tee signs. We would like to see other classes step up and sponsor these signs in the future. This event takes place on the same day as the Meridian Alumni Banquet, which is held in the evening.
Please feel free to forward any comments or ideas for next year’s tourney to the MPSF. We are open to your ideas, suggestions, and thoughts. Thanks to all who made this year’s tourney successful!
